Project One of Five Keystone Events Held to Help Celebrate NASCAR Day

ATLANTA, Ga. (May 21, 2010) – The NASCAR Foundation revealed today a renovation and race theme decoration of a portion of the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

The project, made possible through a partnership between The NASCAR Foundation and Aflac, transforms the original play space into a more kid-friendly space with an exciting new “touch to play” interactive educational gaming system.

“Everyone at the Aflac Cancer Center appreciates the caring contribution The NASCAR Foundation has made for our patients,” said Suzy Scheiblin, Development Officer for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. “This remodel by The NASCAR Foundation helps us further provide a comfortable and child friendly environment for all of the children we treat. We are also deeply grateful for the remarkable support we receive from Aflac, who in addition to all else they do, brought the NASCAR relationship to us.”

Recognized as one of the top childhood cancer centers in the country by U.S.News & World Report, the Aflac Cancer Center treats more than 370 new cancer patients each year and follows more than 2,500 patients with sickle cell disease, hemophilia and other blood disorders.

The room renovation was one of five keystone projects hosted by The NASCAR Foundation to help celebrate NASCAR Day, which takes place today across the country. NASCAR Day, is an annual charitable celebration of the NASCAR spirit that enables fans and corporate partners to join together to make a difference in the lives of children.

The “Big Five” projects include: partnering with Bank of America for a racing-themed educational initiative at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla.; renovation and race theme decoration of a portion of the Aflac Cancer Center in Atlanta, Ga,; working with Sprint, Inc. for a playground build at the Kansas City Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City, Mo.; A Place for Hope project outside Charlotte, N.C. and a fundraiser at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. to support Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital.
